Richard "Dick" D. Hockensmith passed from this this world in the loving arms of his family on Sunday, January 7th, 2018.
Dick was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on January 9th, 1919 to Albert Roy Hockensmith and Emily Hostetler Hockensmith.

Graduating from Johnstown High in 1938, he attended Bethany College in West Virginia until he was drafted into the Army for the war effort. After being stationed in North Africa, he returned to Texas, stationed at a POW camp with prisoners in Mexia, during which time he met the love of his life, Dorothy...

Richard "Dick" D. Hockensmith passed from this this world in the loving arms of his family on Sunday, January 7th, 2018.
Dick was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on January 9th, 1919 to Albert Roy Hockensmith and Emily Hostetler Hockensmith.

Graduating from Johnstown High in 1938, he attended Bethany College in West Virginia until he was drafted into the Army for the war effort. After being stationed in North Africa, he returned to Texas, stationed at a POW camp with prisoners in Mexia, during which time he met the love of his life, Dorothy McFall. Dick was then ordered to the South Pacific for action on Okinawa, gratefully he returned and soon married Dorothy.

Shortly after his return and marriage to Dorothy, he completed his Bachelor's degree at Bethany College.
Upon graduation he worked for General Telephone Company as an econometrician for 30 years and resided in Erie, Pennsylvania for most of those years. During that time, he helped start a Church of Christ, served as Deacon and Treasurer for many years. In addition, while in Erie he obtained his Master's Degree in History.

Dick and Dorothy retired, becoming "Snow Birds", traveling from Pennsylvania to Texas to take care of Dorothy's father and consume their life with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At the age of 90 they came to Cottonwood Shores to live with his daughter Janelle and spent many happy years surround by family, lots of great-grandchildren and friends.

Dick was proceeded in death by his father, Albert Roy Hockensmith; mother, Emily Hostetler Hockensmith; brother Hubert Steed Hockensmith, and daughter Janelle Hockensmith Long.

He is survived by wife of 71 years Dorothy McFall Hockensmith; son Richard Hockensmith and wife Jill, Grandson Travis Hockensmith, Granddaughter Meara Hockensmith and her fiancÚ Bryan Smith, Grandson Richard Paul Long and wife Rhea; their children, Preston, Haydyn, and Henry, Grandson Bryan Scott Long, his wife Kimberley; their children Corbyn, Jasmyn, Caden and James, Grandson Derek Long and wife Lois; and their children Tyler and Caitlyn.
